Our 1st challenge: our carbon footprint 

Our solution is to actively work on developing a strategy to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.

Our solution is to carry out a series of priority actions throughout the product development chain to further reduce our impacts.

Our 3rd challenge: materials

Our solution is to increase the proportion of certified materials, such as RWS wool, FSC viscose and organic cotton, every season at ba&sh. This limits our consumption of water, energy and chemical products and reduces air, water and soil pollution.

Our 4th challenge: transport 

Our solution is to reduce the impact of a global brand on transport, which requires a lot of thought and effort. The first of these, which we have already put in place, is to use shipping transport as soon as possible.

Our 5th challenge: plastic

Our solution is to reduce the use of plastic in our packaging, whether in the shops, in e-commerce or in our warehouse. When we do have to use it, we choose 100% recycled and 100% recyclable plastics. So that we don't have to use so-called "virgin" plastic at all, which would be produced for ba&sh.

Start at the very beginning: measure the carbon footprint, to be able to limit it better

What better way to become truly aware of one's impact on the environment than to accurately calculate one's carbon footprint? In 2020, ba&sh took part in the exercise. This is an essential step in developing an action plan... and in measuring our progress!

Transforming our infrastructure and energy practices

When it comes to energy, there are no small savings: to reduce our carbon footprint, we must rethink our practices, and at all levels. 


1000 kilos. That's the amount of recycled waste collected each year in our Paris headquarters. A massive effort (literally), made possible by a partnership with LemonTri, a BCorp-certified social economy organisation whose subsidiary Lemon Aide collects, packages and sends our waste to virtuous outlets in France. The circle is complete.


Do you regularly wonder why the windows of clothing shops are not turned off at night? Ours are! And our efforts don't stop there: 95% of them are equipped with LED bulbs (which consume three times less energy than traditional low-energy bulbs, and nine times less than incandescent bulbs), and they also turn off their lights at a certain temperature. 


Sanitary facilities are supplied by rainwater recovery tanks, natural lighting is optimised thanks to the use of stringcourses on the façade, and 96% of the site's waste is recycled... All of these measures have earned our new warehouse in the Paris region the recent award of High Environmental Quality (HEQ) certification. The icing on the cake: a photovoltaic power plant will be installed on the roof in 2023. 

Environmental protection is second nature to us

Reducing energy costs is good. But adding to that, an active fight for the preservation of biodiversity (closely linked to the climate) is even better. At ba&sh, concrete actions have already been taken to preserve it, at almost every level of our production and marketing process.

Use of certified materials that are less harmful to the environment and biodiversity (water, air and soil pollution, chemicals, etc.). As is the case with viscose, which is one of our 3 main materials: we have signed the Canopy Pledge Initiative to ensure that it comes from preserved and sustainably managed forests (FSC). We also introduced our Guppyfriend wash bag to retain mircroplastics and reduce their release into rivers and oceans. 

Social compliance
Integrating an "environmental protection" component into our audit methodologies (when we verify that a supplier or factory is working to ba&sh standards). An entire section is already dedicated to the management of chemical products. From 2023, we will go even further. 

We use FSC packaging, which is 100% recycled and recyclable, and RePack, our reusable packaging, in addition to our warehouse obtaining High Environmental Quality certification and equipping a large majority of our shops with LEDs. 

Circular economy
Setting up a rental and second-hand service, developing Remake capsules, maintenance advice and repair tutorials to make your items last longer. 

In 2022 we will:
Develop a new roadmap to reduce the pressure of our operations on ecosystems. 

Green packaging: ba&sh goes all out for the environment

All our packaging is made from 100% recycled cardboard, which is 100% recyclable and sourced from sustainably managed forests (FSC). Since April 2021, in partnership with the start-up Repack, we have also been offering an alternative that allows us to take the waste reduction approach even further. The idea: circular packaging, which you are invited to drop off at the Post Office after receiving your parcel, so that we can reuse it. The result: a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of more than 80% on packaging.

Our bags are now made of recyclable paper (70% recycled fibre).

The polybags, these small plastic bags designed to protect your ba&sh items during transport, are also evolving! In the past, they were made of two different materials - which made recycling them very difficult. We tried bioplastic, which turned out to be unsuitable. Now we're working on making them out of LDPE... and nothing else. What is LDPE? A plastic that is 100% recycled and fully recyclable. This small victory will soon be followed by a bigger one: minimising their use, and even reusing them in a closed circuit.

With the Guppyfriend wash bag, let's protect our clothes... and the oceans

In 2019, we launched Guppyfriend, a wash bag that traps more than 90% of the plastic micro-particles released during each machine cycle, this bag was developed in response to recommendations made by the Plastic Soup Foundation. 

Doesn't it seem obvious to you that this is a positive step? And yet: machine washing of clothes is responsible for more than 35% of the plastic microparticles found in the oceans. These same elements take decades to biodegrade, in addition to disturbing the flora and fauna of the ocean.

To limit the environmental impact of our products, we use certified materials: recycled fibres, organic materials, ethically sourced materials, ecological alternatives to conventional viscose, etc.  

We carefully select the most demanding international standards.  

We have defined a framework to monitor and improve social performance in our supply chain.   

Each partner must commit to our supplier code of conduct and comply with a number of ethical principles.  

We conduct social audits of our entire supplier base. If non-conformities are identified, we support our suppliers in implementing corrective action plans to contribute as much as possible to the rapid and sustainable transformation of our industry.   

Since August 2021, ba&sh is also a member of BSCI, a social compliance initiative. This tool provides a framework for monitoring and improving social performance in our supply chain: supplier mapping, early detection of problems, auditing, corrective actions and training. The aim is to protect workers' rights and improve their working conditions.  

In shop, our bags are made of FSC-certified paper and are made from 80% recycled fibres. They are 100% recyclable.  

For e-commerce packaging, our packaging is made of 100% recycled cardboard, 100% recyclable and originally from sustainably managed forests (FSC). Since the beginning of 2021, we also offer REPACK, a reusable packaging solution. This packaging reduces greenhouse gas emissions by more than 80% compared to 100% recycled and 100% recyclable packaging. 

To protect ba&sh parts during transport and in the warehouse, we use plastic bags. By 2020, our polybags are 60% recycled and 100% recyclable.  By 2022, our polybags will be 100% recycled and 100% recyclable. We are aware that this is only the first step, and we are working to minimise our use of polybags and maximise their reuse in a closed loop.
